Birth photography is a very special way to document and capture this special time for your growing family. It frees up Dad, Grandma or the friend who is there for moral support and allows the birthing team to be there to fully assist Mom while the photographer acts like a fly on the wall capturing away your bundle-of-joys journey into this world.
It is more of a photojournalistic approach to photography and never has to mean explicit crowning shots. The photos & slideshow are essential to have and treasure and reflect upon when the days come and go and the memories fade. A baby is only born once. You only get one chance at capturing those moments; the first breath, the first cry, the first gaze at mom, the first reaction from siblings, the first bath, etc. You deserve to celebrate this time and make this a truly and remarkably wonderful experience you shall NEVER forget… and if you do forget, don’t worry, you got it captured!
How it Works:
We will set up an in-person consultation when you book your due date to get to know each other, answer questions, address any concerns, & get the contract signed with your retainer payment. At our consultation you will be able to see the different collections & what is included in each one. We’ll meet again when you are about 36-weeks to answer any questions or address any concerns that may have come up since our 1st meeting. I encourage your partner to come to one of our meetings if possible so I can address their questions/concerns as well.
I will be on call 24/7 the week before and the week after your due date. Photography coverage from active labor (about 6 – 7cm dilated) through up to two hours after delivery to capture many of your baby’s firsts. This could mean I’m with you 6 hours or 16 hours, but you are not charged more for a long labor.
What to Expect – During Your Session:
I generally strive to be like a fly on the wall: present, but not intrusive. I’m not usually an active participant in the birth – while I do hope to contribute to the caring, supportive energy surrounding the laboring family, and I will step in and offer to help if needed (I will of course fill your water bottles, microwave your heat pads, and fetch the midwives/nurse. It’s not my role to be a stated presence. Instead, I’m there to document what unfolds, as it unfolds, in as unobtrusive a way as possible.
After you have delivered your precious little one (or little ones), I will start to document their first moments of life. I will capture them being weighed, measured, bathed, etc. Then once they have them all wrapped up & ready to snuggle mommy we will get those precious moments of you together with the new bundle of joy as a family. Once I have captured those priceless moments, I will be on my way & leave you to bond with your little one.
What to Expect – After Your Session:
If your collection includes a Fresh-48 session, I will return the following day to do a photoshoot of your little one & your family. If it includes a newborn session, we will schedule it for 5-10 days after the birth & I will come to your home for a mix of posed sleepy baby photos & lifestyle family photos.
I edit most of my birth stories in black & white but if you prefer color only edits or if you would like both color & black & white edits, we can definitely arrange that, just let me know ahead of time.
Five low-resolution, watermarked images will be sent to you within 48 hours of delivery for immediate sharing with family and friends. With your permission, a “sneak peek” gallery will be shared on our Facebook page within 5 days of your birth. In 4 to 6 weeks, your final gallery of edited images will be added to a password protected online gallery for two weeks of viewing. If your Collection includes any digital images, those will be available to download in your gallery.
